The Second Run, a UK-based DVD company specializing in the release of important and award-winning films from all around the world, will release Slovak film The Miraculous Virgin (dir. Štefan Uher, 1966). The film adaptation of Dominik Tatarka’s novel was already released by French company Malavida.
The pioneers of Slovak New Wave will be presented in the february programme of the Cinematheque of National Audiovisual Institute in Helsinki. The Slovak New Wave showcase will take place between Feb 8 – 21, 2018 and will introduce one documentary and four fiction films made by five Slovak directors in the Sixties and early Seventies.
Second Run releases Dragon´s Return as its fourth title of the Slovak classics series and presents it to the English-speaking audiences. Eduard Grečner’s film is following the Second Run DVD titles of Slovak Golden Era Sun in a Net, Birds, Orphans and Fools and Pictures of the Old World.
The Irish city of Cork will host the 1st edition of the Visegrad Film Festival, a festival focusing on the film production in the V4 countries, June 24 – 28, 2015. The programme will present a wide range of Slovak films, including titles of the Slovak classics.
Significant film titles from the Slovak archives will introduce themselves to the audiences of the Midnight Sun FF (June 10 – 14, 2015) in the Finnish country of Lapland, celebrating its 30th anniversary.
The 44th edition of Molodist International Film festival in Kyiv (October 25 – November 2, 2014) dedicates generous space to a special Focus on Slovak cinema, presenting films from the early silent beginnings to the contemporary reflection of Slovakia nowadays. From Kyiv, the collection of films travels to Lviv, as a special Slovak Molodist extension.
Jameson CineFest – Miskolc international Film Festival, known for its interest and focus on animation films, dedicated a special place to Slovak animation within Slovak Animation Days during its 11th edition. Joining forces with the Slovak Film Institute, the audiences have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with a selection of significant short animation films in a collection covering a period from 1960s until these days.
Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia launches its second edition. After the successful premiere edition in Melbourne in June 2013, the festival extends its program to also include Sydney. This year’s edition will be an all-round cultural event focusing on the theme of resistance, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia and the collapse of Communism in Europe.
