Slovak animation at Anifilm Treboň 2018

International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm in Třeboň, Czech Republic (May 1 – 6, 2018) will introduce work of multiple generations of Slovak animators. The festival will also host a Visegrad Animation Forum platform for film professionals.

Yellow, a film by Ivana Šebestová, will compete within the International Competition of Short Films, only a few weeks before being part of the competition at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Young generation of Slovak animated film authors will be represented by two directors. International Competition of Student Films will introduce a papercut animation FOOD (d. Michaela Mihályiová) and a pixilation Woo-Hoo! by Dávid Štumpf will compete at Czech Horizon: Student Films competition.

Accompanying programme will present 3D animated TV series for kids The Websters (d. Katarína Kerekesová), winner of Slovak national film Award The Sun in a Net for Best Animation in 2017. In memoriam of Slovak actor Milan Labuda, festival will screen TV series Emil Pampúšik (d. Blanka Šperková) from 1990s.

Anifilm will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of founding of Czechoslovakia. The selection 100 years of the CSR consists of the sole film by Juraj Bindzár Eye, animated music video The Song (d. Jaroslava Havettová) based on a song by Waldemar Matuška and Helena Vondráčková, and digitally restored short animations by Viktor Kubal Chess and The Idol. The Queues by Helena Slavíková-Rabarová reflects on one of the features of living in socialist era, and The Last Stone (d. Július Hučko) criticize the same epoch, mainly art censorship.

The festival will also screen Insect, Slovak co-production by Jan Švankmajer within the Taking Stock section.

Visegrad Animation Forum with Slovak Participation (VAF)
Anifilm traditionally hosts Visegrad Animation Forum, film industry and market platform for film professionals focused on animation, with the aim to attract potential partners, producers, broadcasters and film distributors, and to assist in finding ways of financing shorts, animated features and TV series.

Main Pitching competitions at VAF also include three Slovak projects in the official selection. Criss Cross by Nina Turčanová, the first Slovak embroidermation will be presented in Short Film category. KA-BOOM! (d. Veronika Kocourková), Slovak representant in the Series/TV specials category, explains natural phenomenons and disasters in stories designed for children. Of Unwanted Things and People is an upcoming coproduction of four directors, with the participation of Ivana Laučíková.

New Talents, the selection focusing on films by extraordinary talents with promising future careers, introduces Tutti (d. Marek Jasaň) and Contrast (d. Barbora Bárková).

Slovak participation at VAF is coordinated by the Slovak Association of Animation Producers (APAF).
