The Slovak animated film Living Large, made in Czech-Slovak-French coproduction and directed by Kristina Dufková, has been nominated for the 2024 European Film Awards in the Best Animated Film and the Best European Film categories.
The film, based on Mikaël Ollivier’s novel La Vie, en gros, follows the story of Benjamin, a thirteen-year-old boy navigating the challenges of adolescence, struggles with obesity, and relationships with loved ones. The central theme of the movie revolves around self-acceptance and finding one’s inner worth.
The film had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where it won the Prix du Jury in the Contrechamp competition section. It was also screened at festivals in Shanghai, Karlovy Vary, and Locarno.
The European Film Awards ceremony will take place on December 7, 2024, in Lucerne, Switzerland.
