The Slovak nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film Award of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), also known as the Oscar, is The Line by Peter Bebjak.
Cinema Lumière (Sept 27 – Oct 3, 2017) in Bratislava and Dom umenia in Piešťany (Oct 1 -3, 2017) will be the venues of Russian Film Days. With the motto „one film a day“, the event will showcase a selection of the new Russian films including the newest oeuvres of Karen Shakhnazarov, Aleksei Mizgirev or Andrei Konchalovsky.
It is for the fifth time that Australia welcomes Czech and Slovak films during the one of a kind event Czech and Slovak Film festival in Australia (CaSFFA). As it became some sort of a habit, the 2017 edition once again introduced several changes – already in July, the new venue, Brisbane, introduced a selection of master pieces of Juraj Herz, and Sydney is only saying brief good-bye this year to welcome you in March 2018. Nevertheless, it all starts in Melbourne (September 15 – 23) and continues in Canberra (October 11 – 14), Perth (October 18 – 21) and Sydney (October 27 – 28, and march 2018).
The 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 7 – 17, 2017) introduces two Slovak films within its rich programme. Sidebar Contemporary World Cinema features Nina by Juraj Lehotský and Short Cuts premieres a short student film Magic Moments by Martina Buchelová.
The 12th edition of International Film Festival Cinematik brings together not only a selection of European films, but also sixteen Slovak films – many of them in their premieres. The festival takes place on Sept 12 – 17, 2017 in Piešťany.
Perhaps the most significant event dedicated to short films is starting in Clermont-Ferrand tomorrow. The prestigious International Short Film Festival (27. 1. – 4. 2. 2012) will welcome a Slovak representative, as well.
The International Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand (4. – 12. 2. 2011) will present the animation musical Stones by Katarína Kerekesová within the programme of its 33rd edition.
