Cottbus Film Festival (8 – 13 November 2022), which is one of the most important events focusing on Eastern European cinema, starts today. It will bring 12 Slovak films.
In the Feature Film Competition section Slovakian minority The Word by Beata Parkanová, which premiered at the Karlovy Vary IFF 2022 and won the awards for best director and best male actor, will compete for the main prize.
The Spectrum section will present the latest Slovak films The Ballad of Piargy (d. Ivo Trajkov), Nightsiren (d. Tereza Nvotová), Kryštof (d. Zdeněk Jiráský) and Victim (d. Michal Blaško), all of which recently premiered at international festivals.
In the Hits section, successful among viewers, we can find the romantic gangster film Goldilocks and the Glorious Losers (d. Rastislav Boroš) and the TV series Ultimatum (d. Michal Kollár).
The children’s program will include an animated feature The Websters Movie (d. Katarína Kerekesová), a short Mimi and Lisa (d. Ivana Šebestová, Katarína Kerekesová) and a minority co-production How I Learned to Fly (d. Andrić Radivoje).
The Women’s Roles in Socialism and Beyond section will screen a successful award-winning short film Love, Dad by director Diana Cam Van Nguyen.
Last year the Spotlight was on Slovakia, this year it is Romania’s turn. On this occasion, the film The Eagles from Taga (d. Adina Popescu, Iulian Manuel Gharvas), which is this year’s Slovak co-production, will also be screened.
