The main topic of 58th Zlín Film Festival for children and youth (May 25 – June 2, 2018) will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. The celebration will be reflected in multiple programme sections that will show a number of contemporary, as well as archive Slovak films.

In this year´s edition, Slovak films will compete within four sections. International Competition of Feature Films for Children will introduce family film The Third Wish by Vít Karas and dance film Backstage by Andrea Sedláčková will compete in International Competition of Feature Films for Youth.

International Competition of Animated Films for Children will bring episode Hero Daddy from TV series The Websters (d. Katarína Kerekesová) to the big sceen.

Three Slovak shorts will compete in International Competition of Student Films Zlín Dog. Animation Scandinavia by Katarína Kočanová from The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and shorts Havenofear by Jakub Gajdoš and JUTUB.COM by Róbert Bošeľa from The Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

Informative section focused on contemporary cinema Czech Films and TV Production will introduce Nina by Juraj Lehotský and Barefoot by Jan Svěrák.

The festivals´ main theme will be also reflected in section Czechoslovakian Cinema: Films of My Childhood, curated by influential actors and filmmakers. The selection contains four films from the archive of Slovak Film Institute: If I Had a Gun (d. Štefan Uher), tragicomic tale of boys who played at being soldiers, drama story Wolves´ Lairs (d. Paľo Bielik) which equally takes place during the Slovak National Uprising and fairytale classics Lady Winter (d. Juraj Jakubisko) and Salt More than Gold (d. Martin Hollý).

Last but not least, the celebration of Czechoslovakia´s anniversary will also be reflected in the Golden Slipper award for extraordinary contribution to cinema for children that will go Slovak actress Magda Vašáryová and Czech actor Jaromír Hanzlík.
