Art Film Fest celebrates 100 years of Slovak cinema

The 28th Art Film Fest Košice International Film Festival (June 23 – 27, 2021) will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Slovak feature film, Jánošík (1921), with a special screening. Moreover, the new Slovak films will not be left out either, several of the films will have their premiere.

On the occasion of the centenary of the film, Jánošík (1921) will be screened at the Art Film Fest with live music. The screening will be accompanied by the accomplished Slovak musician David Kollar, who has composed music for more than thirty films and theater performances. In 2020, he won the Sun in the Net National Award in the category of film music for the music for the film Punk Never Ends! (2019).

The Slovak Season section features a selection of contemporary domestic production – mostly documentaries, several of which will be screened in Slovakia for the first time: White on White (d. Viera Čákanyová), Ivan Palúch: An Actor’s Life (d. Martin Palúch), The Commune (d. Jakub Julény), Video Kings (d. Lukáš Bulava), On Your Marks! (d. Mária Pinčíková), The Sailor (d. Lucia Kašová), King Bee (d. Vladislava Sárkány), Eternal Jožo, or How I Met a Star (d. Jan Gogola Jr.). The section also includes new Slovak fiction films: Shadow Country (d. Bohdan Sláma), The Man with Hare Ears (d. Martin Šulík), Wrap Up and Disappear (d. Adam Hobzik), Cook F**k Kill (d. Mira Fornay).
