11th edition of Fest Anča International Animation Festival (June 28 – July 1, 2018) will focus on domestic animated films. The festival programme contains works of several generations of Slovak filmmakers, contemporary animations within various competitive sections and archive films that belong to National Film Archive collection of Slovak Film Institute.
Competition of Slovak Films will introduce 39 weeks, 6 days (d. Joanna Kożuch, Boris Šima), Auuuna (d. Lina Šuková), FOOD (d. Michaela Mihalyiová), Chilli (d. Martina Mikušová), Journey (d. Marek Jasaň), Contrast (d. Barbora Bárková), The Websters: Hero Daddy (d. Katarína Kerekesová), selFish (d.Lukáš Figeľ), Here and Here (d. Michaela Mihalyiová), Untravel (d. Ana Nedeljkovic, Nikola Majdak, Jr.), Woo-Hoo! (d. Dávid Štumpf) and Yellow (d. Ivana Šebestová), which will be the only Slovak representative in the International Competition of Short Films as well.
Two films from the Competition of Slovak Films will equally participate Contrast (d. Barbora Bárková) and Here and Here (d. Michaela Mihalyiová) will also participate in the International Student Film Competition. In the Sky (d. Jana Hirnerová, Marián Vredík) will be competing in the International Competition of Music Videos.
Untravel (2018) will be also presented within World Panorama section and the episode from TV series Websters – Hero Daddy will be introduced within World Panorama for Kids. The first six episodes of the TV series will be screened in The Websters selection.
Section VAF: New Talents 2018 will present the best films made by students and debuting artists from Central and Eastern Europe. This year´s selection also contains two Slovak animated films Tutti (d. Marek Jasaň) and Contrast (d. Barbora Bárková).
Programmers of Fest Anča selected Slovak films also for the non-competitive program. ♥ Feelings ♥ (d. Michaela Mihályiová) and Woo-Hoo! (d. Dávid Štumpf) will be presented in the Anča in Wonderland section, Don (d. Samuel Púchovský), FOOD (d. Michaela Mihályiová) and New Blood (d. Ladislav Jambor) in the ESSESF section. Breathe (d. Kristína Minčíková) will be the only Slovak entry in the Contemporary Abstract and Non-narrative Animation section.
Fest Anča will also commemorate events of great significance and historical milestones such as the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and 25 years of independent Slovak Republic. Brigand Jurko, the first Slovak full-length animated film directed by Viktor Kubal, will be screened (with live music performance of Marek Piaček) as part of these celebrations, along with other digitally restored films from the Slovak Film Institute’s National Film Archive. Six short films will be presented in section 100 Years of Czechoslovakia, reflecting the history of the country. The selection also contains films by Slovak directors, Eye (d. Juraj Bindzár), The Song (d. Jaroslava Havettová), Chess and Idol (d. Viktor Kubal), The Queues (d. Helena Slavíková-Rabarová) and The Last Stone (d. Július Hučko, Jaroslava Havettová).
25 Years of Slovak Animation will introduce a selection of the most significant short animated films made in the era of independent Slovak Republic. The festival´s venues will screen A Ballad of Four Horses (d. Gratex), Steps, Leaps, Years… and the Last One Turns off the Light (d. collective), Glider (d. Igor Drevenec, Juraj Krumpolec), If not, then not (d. Vladimír Král), In the Box (d. Michal Struss), Anatomy of an Idea (d. Peter Košťál), Fat Fatal (d. Michaela Čopíková), Čmuchal & Sviňa Strike Again (d. Andrej Kolenčík), Viliam (d. Veronika Obertová), Stones (d. Katarína Kerekesová), tWINs (d. Peter Budinský), The Last Bus (d. Ivana Laučíková), Love at First Sight (d. Veronika Kocourková), Pandas (d. Matúš Vizár), Moon (d. Ondrej Rudavský), Bubble (d. Mária Oľhová), Fongopolis (d. Joanna Kożuch), In Line (d. Kamila Kučíková), Nina (d. Veronika Obertová, Michaela Čopíková), Cowboy Land (d. Dávid Štumpf), Spirit of the City (d. Andrej Kolenčík, Veronika Kocourková), Superbia (d. Luca Tóth), Mila Fog (d. Marta Prokopová), Chilli (d. Martina Mikušová) and Yellow (d. Ivana Šebestová).
