The Fest Anča International Animation Festival, held annually in Žilina, showcases the latest animated works from around the world. Its 17th edition will take place from June 25 to June 30, and Slovak films have a significant presence in various sections and competitions.
In the International Short Film Competition, Slovakia will be represented by the film Hello Summer directed by Martin Smatana and Veronika Zacharová, which recently won the Young Audience Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This film will also participate in the Slovak Short Film Competition. The section will feature films such as Wereawolf by Nik Mlynarčík, Perplexity by Franz Milec, Tapping Black Boots by Kaoru Furuko, Bobo by Veronika Obertová, Dream Rotation by Darya Sidorova, Viktória Zimmermannová, Rebeka Vakrčková, and Katarína Jelínková, About Stars and Fables by Alla Dmitrievna Prokopyshyna, and Silo by Imrich Kútik.
In the International Competition of Music Videos, President Lourajder – Lunapark directed by Martin Mihályi will be presented.
The Short Films for Children section will feature two Slovak films: Bobo by Veronika Obertová and an episode from the new series Forest Five by Ivana Laučíková.
The Short Films from Around the World section will screen The Garden of Heart by Olivér Hegyi.
Within the Slovak Short Films section, Forest Five by Ivana Laučíková, The Tots – Picnic by Vanda Raýmanová and Michal Struss, Saturday by Szilard Kardiak, Veľká potreba – Coincidence by Milan Uherčík, Slovak for a Word – To Mature by Marián Vredík, The Wolf and the Little Goats by Radovan Halička, The Wasteland by Timotej Lukovič, and Everything We Missed by Marta Prokopová will be showcased.
In addition to new Slovak films, the festival will also present classics from the archives of the Slovak Film Institute (SFI). A program titled Joys and Sorrows will feature films such as The Virgin Land by Ondrej Slivka, Saturday Is Here by Vlastimil Herold, The Flea and the Elephant by Ivan Popovič, Phone by Július Hučko, Eye by Juraj Bindzár, Baby in the Army by Penčo Kunčev, The Monument by Oleg Makar-Kalmáry, Ikebana by Jozef Povrazník, and The Construction by Ivo Hejcman. The program was curated by SFI specialist Lea Pagáčová.
