Slovak films at Bratislava IFF 2017

International Film Festival Bratislava (Nov 9 – 16, 2017) will again present a wide range of Slovak Films. Traditional section Made in Slovakia brings contemporary Slovak cinema to an international audience.

The full-length part of the section consists of two co-production feature films: The White World According to Daliborek (d. Vít Klusák) and Garden Store: Suitor (d. Jan Hřebejk). Third one is the medium-length documentary Varga (d. Soňa Maletzová), which portrays the life of musician Marián Varga through archive images of his musical performances. Through various interpretations of one song in different periods of his lifetime, the film accurately depicts the iconic character of Slovak big beat generation.

The core of the Made in Slovakia section consists of short films: China (d. Gregor Valentovič), Into the World (d. Alžbeta Hrušovská), Strawberry Days (d. Eva Sekerešová), Jútub.com (d. Róbert Bošeľa), The Contrast (d. Barbora Bárková), About My Sister
(d. Barbora Sliepková), De Luxe (d. Mária Pinčíková), Tutti (d. Marek Jasaň), Dance Teacher (d. Barbora Vaculová), woMAN (d. Patrícia Gyenesová) and Yours (d. Michal Fulier). The program also includes festival success Atlantis, 2003 (d. Michal Blaško), first featured in the Cinéfondation section of Cannes IFF, as well as Magic Moments by Martina Buchelová, world premiered in Short Cuts at Toronto IFF.

Next to contemporary Slovak films, Bratislava IFF will also present older Slovak titles. Section Tribute: Božidara Turzonová will bring the movie Penelope (d. Štefan Uher) back on the big screen as will the section Lexicon: Screen Acting with Our Daily Life (d. Otakar Krivánek). Especially for children, the festival prepared section Junior: Bedtime Stories and the series The Tiniest Heroes (d. František Jurišič).
