The prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (28 January – 5 February 2022) features two Slovak short films in the official programme. Director and producer Martin Smatana will present his upcoming film at the Euro Connection co-production forum and for the fourth time the Slovak Film Institute will offer an informational and promotional point for Slovak cinema at the Short Film Market (31 January – 4 February 2022).

The 13th Les Arcs Film Festival will take place from 11 to 18 December 2021, live at the Les Arcs ski resort in France.

The Slovak nomination for the Best International Feature Film Award of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), also known as the Oscar, is 107 Mothers by Peter Kerekes.

This year Kids Kino Industry and Cinekid for Professionals join forces to launch Producers LINK, a newly established programme for emerging producers of children’s content. Slovak director and producer Martin Smatana will take part in the programme.

The 34th edition of Finále Plzeň film festival (September 24 – 29, 2021) will feature 10 Slovak film in competitions and another 12 in non-competitive sections.

The Venice International Film Festival (1. – 11. September 2021) will present the world premiere of Peter Kerekes’s fiction film debut. 107 Mothers will compete with 18 other titles in the Orizzonti section, dedicated to films that represent the lastest aesthetic and expressive trends in the international cinema.

Long-awaited new releases, short films by emerging and experienced directors or upcoming feature-length debuts. The 47th edition of the Summer Film School Uherské Hradiště, which will take place from 6 to 12 August 2021, will present a wide range of Slovak cinema.

Sunny Side of the Doc, an international market for documentary cinema, gives a special attention to Central and Eastern European region this year. Five Slovak projects are present at the marketplace which takes place online on June 21–24, 2021.

UK-based company Second Run has published so far six Slovak films licensed by the Slovak Film Institute (SFI). The latest entry, Peter Solan’s Before Tonight is Over (1965), will world premiere on Blu-ray on 14 June 2021.
