Slovak filmmakers are set to make a mark at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (February 2 – 10, 2024). Two remarkable short films from Slovakia, Cold and Dark by Peter Hošták and Criss Cross by Nina Rybárová and Tomáš Rybár, have been selected to participate in different competition sections, showcasing the diverse talent emerging from the Slovak film industry.

It is a strong year for Slovak cinema at Industry part of one of the most prestigious documentary film festivals in the world – Amsterdam’s IDFA (November 8 – 19, 2023).

The International Film Festival One World is well known to focus on inclusion in and social impact of cinema. This year’s festival programme includes multiple new Slovak films, while Impact Days are dedicated to the impact campaigns. The festival takes place in Bratislava and online on November 3 – 9, 2023.

The 27th edition of Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (October 24 – 29, 2023) will showcase multiple Slovak films, including the new ones by Jaro Vojtek and Vera Lacková.

The film adaptation of Slovak novella of the same name, Dragon’s Return (1967), directed by Eduard Grečner, will be screened at one of the most renowned international classic film festivals, Lumière in Lyon (October 14 – 22, 2023). The film will be presented alongside other works from the whole world in the Treasures and Curiosities section.

The 50th Film Fest Ghent (October 10 – 21, 2023) will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Viktor Kubal, the father of Slovak animated film. An American composer of electroacoustic music Claire Rousay provides Kubal’s The Bloody Lady with an all-new live soundtrack.

The 66th edition of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 8 – 15, 2023) will present multiple Slovak films in the program, including a classic doc Black Days.

The 39th Warsaw Film Festival (October 6 – 15, 2023) will present three Slovak feature films, one of them in its world premiere.

Five short animated classic films from the collections of the National Film Archive of the Slovak Film Institute will be presented to the audience during the Kaohsiung Film Festival (October 7 – 22, 2023) in Taiwan.
