The Czech and Slovak rebels with camera are coming to Poland. A showcase Rebels with Camera: Czechoslovak New Wave kicks off on February 19 and brings the best of the Czechoslovak New Wave into two Polish cities Wroclaw and Warsaw.
More than 40 key films from 1960-ties will be shown within the showcase in 14 weeks. Screenings will be accompanied by lectures and panel discussions with Czech, Slovak and Polish filmmakers, theorist and historians themed on culture, historical and social context of the 1960-ties in Czechoslovakia.
A guest of the opening weekend will be Dušan Hanák, who will introduce his feature debut 322 (1969). Also his films Pictures of the Old World (1972) and a short documentary Old Shatterhand Came to See Us (1966) are included into the showcase. Czech director Jiří Menzel and Polish director Andrzej Wajda will also attend the opening ceremony.
The representative showcase will take place at two Warsaw cinemas Iluzjon and Muranów and at the Cinema Nowe Horizonty in Wroclaw.
The showcase is organized by Fundacja RAW in Warsaw, Slovak Institute in Warsaw, Czech Centre in Warsaw, Filmoteka Narodowa, Gutek Film, Association Nowe Horyzonty with the support of the Slovak Film Institue and the National Film Archive in Prague.
The Wroclaw part of the showcase is one of the events organised within the European Capital of Culture 2016 programme.
