goEast Wiesbaden (April 9 – 15, 2014) introduces a spotlight on filmmaking in Slovakia.
Five Slovak feature films as well as a short film programme will be presented within the 14th edition of the festival in the Focus Slovakia and Beyond Belonging sections. In addition, a panel discussion, with the title Slovak Cinema Now will examine the various streams in Slovak cinema and the societal, political and social influences that confront filmmakers and the national film industry.
Within East West Talent Lab, programme of training and support for young filmmakers, the panel discussion Funding for Short Films, Documentaries and Video Art will provides information on possible sources of funding in Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Germany. The Lab also includes a Pitching Session with 16 short film projects (fiction, documentary, experimental) competing for the goEast Development Award worth 3,500 euros, among them the Slovak participant, The Taster by Michal Baláž.
The panel discussion Slovak Cinema Now will contribute to the Slovak focus with a discussion of currents and tendencies as well as political and societal influences confronting directors and the country’s film industry. Martin Blaney and the speakers (Alexandra Strelková, Slovak Film Institute, Eva Križková, film critic, Zuzana Liová, director and Peter Badač, producer) will be exploring the perspective of Slovak cinema against the background of a process of social transformation extending into the present day.
