
The festival in the Italian Trieste starts today and will run till January 23. The documentary play by the directiorial duo Marek Šulík and Jana Bučka Bells of Happiness, which premiered at the 47th Karlovy Vary IFF, will be presented withing the Walls of Sound, which focused at fiction and documentary films about music from Central and East Europe. The film will be personally introduced by the director Jana Bučka and Štefan Bučka. Short films by the VŠMU students from Bratislava will be also screened withing the Eastweek section – the students will personally present their films What Does It Mean For Us (dir. Mária Martiniaková), Terra Nullius (dir. Martina Frajštáková) and Old Bricks (dir. Maxim Melnyk).

The French festival Premiers Plans in Angers, focusing on debutes of European directors, will run January 18 – 27. In a French premiere, the debut film by Mátyás Prikler Fine, Thanks will be introduced in the Competion – European Feature Films section – just a few days after its world premiere at the 42nd Rotterdam IFF. The short animation by Michaela Čopíková Dust and Glitter will be screened within the Competation – European Animation Films section, as well.

The Swedish Göteborg will welcome Slovak cinema, as well: the Slovak national Oscar nomination, the debut by director Iveta Grófová Made in Ash, which was world-premiered at the 47th Karlovy Vary IFF as the opening film of the East of the West section, will be screened within the Debuter section. The festival runs January 25 – February 4.
