The 46th Summer Film School Uherské Hradište (7 – 12 August 2020) will once again, even at the expense of losing a few days, present a rich programme with a traditionally large Slovak representation.
The 20th goEast (Festival of Central and Eastern European Film) will take place despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On the promised dates (May 5 – 11, 2020) it is however moving to the online space. As the art of film belongs to the cinema, the festival team decided to postpone several program sections until the end of this year with promised participation of expected guests.
After last year’s exceptional success, Slovak shorts continue to thrive. Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (January 1 – February 8, 2020), one of the world’s largest and most prestigious film festivals dedicated to short films, will present two Slovak animated films in its program. Furthermore, Slovakia will be represented for the second time within Short Film Market (February 3 – 6, 2020).
The 48th IFF Rotterdam (January 22 – February 2, 2020) will present three full-length Slovak films.
One of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe with busiest regional industry platforms Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (November 15 – December 1, 2019) will introduce at its 23rd edition two Slovak features including world premiere of Mira Fornay’s absurd drama Cook, F**k, Kill. Slovak cinema will also be present within Tallinn’s sub-festivals Just Film, PÖFF Shorts and at programs dedicated to film industry professionals.
Film Festival Cottbus (November 5 – 10, 2019) with special focus on East and Central European cinema will present up to 10 Slovak films in 9 program sections at its 29th edition.
Numerous world and international premieres of the Slovak documentaries will take place within the 23rd Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (October 24 – 29, 2019). The festival will also present a selection of eight digitally restored Slovak documentary shorts made in 1960s and 1970s.
35th Warsaw Film Festival (October 11 – 20, 2019) will introduce tree Slovak feature films.
This year the 7th edition of the Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia embraces the theme of “keys to the city” that represents the people unlocking the doors of power and taking back control of their heartland.
