The MIDPOINTworkshop, aimed at supporting talents and script developing, announced it winners on August 29, 2015 at FAMU, in Prague. Among the awarded were two Slovak projects: Why We Believe and The Contest.
A town with the most beautiful sunset in the world, according to the classic director Alfred Hitchcock, will host a section guiding the audience through Slovak cinema. The section entitled From Suns to Explosions will present eight films ranging from the 60s to most recent production within the 5th edition of the Avvantura Film Festival Zadar (23. – 29. 8. 2014) in Croatia.
Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia launches its second edition. After the successful premiere edition in Melbourne in June 2013, the festival extends its program to also include Sydney. This year’s edition will be an all-round cultural event focusing on the theme of resistance, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia and the collapse of Communism in Europe. The 40th anniversary edition of Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště takes a place from July 25 to August 2, 2014. The programme introduces Slovak films from the recent five years. The cycle Visegrad horizon: Talent presents the work of the Slovak female documentarist Zuzana Piussi. The main part of the Slovak showcase will be screened on Tuesday, July 29, within the traditional Slovak day, taking place for the 20th time.
Lago Film Fest in the Italian Revine Lago celebrates its 10th also with a selection a special section dedicated to Slovak shorts within the Eurovision focus. Pandas (M. Vizár) are presented in the International Competition.
The 43rd edition of the Lubuskie Film Summer Central and Eastern Europe Lagów (Poland) features a great number of Slovak films (14), 11 of them in the main competition programme.
After the release of The Sun in a Net in August 2013, UK´s Second Run releases its second title of the Slovak classics series and presents one of the most radical films of the Czechoslovak New Wave, Juraj Jakubisko´s Birds, Orphans and Fools.
The Russian audience will have a perfect chance to meet the contemporary Slovak cinema. The Slovak Film Week in Moscow will run June 25 – 28, 2014 and will introduce six feature and four short Slovak films, some of them presented by their authors.
The Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) nominated two Slovak films for the European Film Awards – feature fiction A Step into the Darkness by Miloslav Luther premiered in June 2014 and documentary feature All My Children by Ladislav Kaboš premiered in February 2014, reaching record number in admissions – over 23.000 in Slovak cinemas.
