The feature-length animated film Tales From the Magic Garden (dirs. David Súkup, Patrik Pašš, Leon Vidmar, Jean-Claude Rozec) was nominated in two categories for the 2025 European Film Awards.
The only Slovak film was nominated from among the films shortlisted in the first round, based on the votes of 5,400 members of the European Film Academy. It will compete for the award in the European Animated Feature Film category and is also in the running for the main European Film category, which includes 15 feature-length live-action, documentary, and animated films.
The family film Tales From the Magic Garden draws inspiration from the book Of Unwanted Things and People by Czech author Arnošt Goldflam. The story of three children staying overnight at their grandfather’s for the first time after the death of their grandmother, a remarkable storyteller, gently conveys hope and helps navigate challenging life situations.
The film was produced as an equal four-way co-production between the Czech Republic (Maurfilm), Slovakia (Artichoke Production), Slovenia (ZVVIKS), and France (Vivement Lundi). It had its world premiere at this year’s Berlinale in the Generation Kplus competition section and was also presented to audiences at festivals in Zlín, Annecy, Karlovy Vary, Hamburg, Warsaw, and many others. It is currently being distributed in Slovak cinemas by Bear With Me Distribution.
The 38th European Film Awards ceremony will take place on January 17, 2026, in Berlin.
