The film Last Routine opened the Bratislava IFF Febiofest, the festival will present eleven Slovak titles
12. March 2026

The 33rd edition of the International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava (11 – 17 March, 2026) will showcase over sixty films, eleven of which are Slovak.

In the short film competition section In the Heart of Europe, exactly half of the Slovak films at this year’s Febiofest are featured. The trio of films consists of documentary works that premiered last year and have been successful on the festival circuit: the poetic film How to Listen to Fountains (dir. Eva Sajanová), the observational film-poem Seablindness (dir. Tereza Smetanová), and the experimental satire Greetings from Rhodes (dir. Viera Čákanyová). These documentaries are complemented by two fiction films: a student adaptation of the eponymous novella This Room Is Impossible to Eat (dir. Emília Ondriášová) and an experimental fairy tale with animated elements, Orla (dir. Marie Lukáčová), which recently had its world premiere at IFFR.

The competition section for feature-length documentaries and fiction films In the Heart of Europe includes the fiction film Last Routine (dir. Jakub Červenka), a biopic about figure skater Ondrej Nepela, which also served as the festival’s opening film.

Four other programme sections each include five Slovak feature films. The fiction films Little Thief (dir. Ondřej Hudeček, Limitless section) and Dancing with the Bear (dir. Jitka Rudolfová, Film Plus section) will have their Slovak premieres at the festival, while the youngest audiences will enjoy the animated film Tales from the Magic Garden (dirs. David Súkup, Patrik Pašš, Leon Vidmar, Jean-Claude Rozec) in the Young Febiofest section. The Mirror of the Past programme will revisit Eva Borušovičová’s comedy Truth or Dare, which she both wrote and directed, and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dušan Hanák’s 1976 Czechoslovak comedy Rose Tinted Dreams, which is part of the collections of the National Film Archive of the Slovak Film Institute.

Febiofest also features the co-production and presentation forum Bratislava Industry Days, whose main programme highlights presentations of upcoming films under Works in Progress. The 11th edition will showcase 17 Central European projects at various stages of production. Parallel to Febiofest, the international educational and networking event Visegrad Film Forum takes place, offering lectures by renowned filmmakers. It is primarily aimed at VŠMU students but is open to all interested participants.
