As the first in Slovak history, the feature debut OUT by György Kristóf, was selected for the 11th Cinéfondation L’Atelier, which is a part of the prestigious Cannes IFF. The film was invited among the 15 most promising projects from the whole world.

Animation in Action is a project of the V4 countries aimed to promote classical animation for children and it is an activity based upon the co-operation of film archives in Katowice, Bratislava, Prague and Budapest. It consists of touring screenings of Polish, Slovak, Czech and Hungarian animation film collections, which will be introduced in archives in all four countries.

After the last year’s success at Berlin IFF, when the Velvet Terrorists documentary won the Tagesspiegel Readers’ Award, Slovak films are returning to the festival programme. The 65th Berlinale (February 5 – 15, 2015) introduces the feature debut by Ivan Ostrochovský Koza and the short animation by Martin Smatana Rosso Papavero.

The festival year 2015 for Slovak films starts at Trieste Film Festival (January 17 – 22, 2015). Focused on quality films from the Central and Eastern Europe and Italy, in the programe of its 26th edition the festival presents the Italian premieres of two successful Slovak films on the last year.

Nominations for the Czech National Film Award Czech Lion for 2014, granted by the Czech Film and Television Academy, were announced. Two Slovak co-productions and several Slovak artists are on the nominations list.

Black Nights Tallinn IFF (November 14 – 30, 2014) is one of the largest events dedicated to film in the Baltic countries. The festival, reaching adulthood this year and celebrating its 18th edition, offers its visitors three other sub-festivals besides the main programme. The three sub-events are focused on student films, animation films and films for children and youth.

For the fourth time Slovakia participates in the European Film Promotion (EFP) project Screenings of Oscar® Submitted Films during the American Film Market (AFM), USA. Slovakia is represented by her national Academy nomination, Miloslav Luther´s film A Step into the Dark (2014).

The 44th edition of Molodist International Film festival in Kyiv (October 25 – November 2, 2014) dedicates generous space to a special Focus on Slovak cinema, presenting films from the early silent beginnings to the contemporary reflection of Slovakia nowadays. From Kyiv, the collection of films travels to Lviv, as a special Slovak Molodist extension.

Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (Oct 23 – 28, 2014) traditionally opens the documentary Autumn festival season. In its 18th edition, Slovak films are presented both in the competition program and side-bar sections. In addition, the festival´s Industry platform hosts several events with Slovak participation.
