The 7th edition of CinEast takes place on September 9 – 26, 2014 in Luxembourg.
At the 55th edition of MFF Thessaloniki (October 31 – November 9, 2014), the Slovak cinema is represented by the title In Silence (2014) directed by Zdeněk Jiráský in the Main Selection of the festival’s Open Horizons.
In 2014, 24 domestic titles is expected to enter Slovak cinemas, a third of the amount during the last four months of the year.
The Slovak nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts (AMPAS), also known as Oscar, is A Step into the Dark by Miloslav Luther.
Jameson CineFest – Miskolc international Film Festival, known for its interest and focus on animation films, dedicated a special place to Slovak animation within Slovak Animation Days during its 11th edition. Joining forces with the Slovak Film Institute, the audiences have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with a selection of significant short animation films in a collection covering a period from 1960s until these days.
A retrospective entitled Eastern Promises. Portrait of Eastern Europe in 50 films is a part of the 62nd San Sebastián IFF (19. – 27. 9. 2014) programme in Spain and it will introduce 50 films produced since 2000 in the countries that lived under Soviet influence post-World War II.
The MIDPOINTworkshop, aimed at supporting talents and script developing, announced it winners on August 29, 2015 at FAMU, in Prague. Among the awarded were two Slovak projects: Why We Believe and The Contest.
A town with the most beautiful sunset in the world, according to the classic director Alfred Hitchcock, will host a section guiding the audience through Slovak cinema. The section entitled From Suns to Explosions will present eight films ranging from the 60s to most recent production within the 5th edition of the Avvantura Film Festival Zadar (23. – 29. 8. 2014) in Croatia.
