Focus: Contemporary Slovak Cinema 2014 / Pictures and Dreams – The Most Awarded Slovak Films will be showcased from June 4 to June 11, 2014 in Skopje, Macedonia on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishing of the diplomatic relations between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Macedonia.
13th Transilvania IFF (May 30 – June 8, 2014) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania features a very distinct program of Slovak films. After the successful Focus section dedicated to both archive and new Slovak films in its previous edition, this year, TIFF-audiences have a chance to discover one the great masters of Slovak cinema and of the Czechoslovak New Wave Peter Solan (1929 – 2013).
In its 27th edition, Finále Plzeň (April 27 – May 3, 2014, Pilsen, Czech Republic), traditional festival of Czech films, opens its gates also to Slovak films. Slovak films entered the competition for the main award – the Golden Kingfisher, in all three competition sections, as well as in the new competition of Czech and Slovak TV formats.
The 16th edition of the Cinema at the Border film showcase takes place in Český Těšín and Cieszyn at the Czech-Polish border, April 29 – May 4, 2014. This year the festival honours the Slovak film director Dušan Hanák, who has recently received The Sun in a Net Award for Outstanding Contribution to Slovak Cinema.
Slovak films will finish April with a significant festival presence – they will be available at the 21st Hot Docs in Toronto, 11th Crossing Europe in Linz and 6th PriFilmFest in Prishtina.
The 19th Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris (March 20 – April 3, 2014), one of the most anticipated and respected cultural events in Lithuania, is certainly a great venue for Slovak films.
The Slovak actor Štefan Kvietik will receive the prestigous Trebbia Award for Lifetime Achievement during the gala ceremony in the Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle this Sunday, March 9, 2014.
goEast Wiesbaden (9. – 15. 4. 2014) introduces a spotlight on filmmaking in Slovakia.
The Slovak director Dušan Hanák will receive the prestigious Sofia Award at the 18th Sofia IFF in Bulgaria. The award for Outstanding Contribution in Cinema is a joint initiative of Sofia Municipality and Sofia International Film Festival.
