On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the Slovak Radio building in Bratislava hosted the ceremonial presentation of the The Sun in a Net National Film Awards for 2024. The awards are presented annually by the Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA), with the Slovak Film Institute (SFI) serving as a co-organizer and partner of the event.
The 14th edition of the awards brought several new developments. For the first time, an award was presented in the category of Best Short Fiction or Documentary Film. Another change affected how the ceremony was shared with the public: Slovak Radio and Television (STVR) did not broadcast the event live, but instead only provided the technical production. For the first time in the award’s history, audiences had the opportunity to watch the winners receive trophies— designed by glass artist Oliver Jaššo — exclusively online.
The historical drama Waves converted its 14 nominations into nine awards, including Best Fiction Film and Best Film Direction, making it the most awarded film of the year. The drama The Hungarian Dressmaker earned five awards, including Best Actress in a Leading and Supporting Role. Best Documentary went to Ms. President, and Best Animated Film was Living Large. The inaugural award for Best Short Fiction or Documentary Film went to the student film Confession. The award for Outstanding Contribution to Slovak Audiovisual Culture was presented to film director Miloslav Luther.
