The Czechoslovak New Wave presented by the Embassies of Slovakia and the Czech Republic

On February 21, 2013, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Washington, DC screened the pioneering film The Sun in a Net (1962) of director Štefan Uher. The screening opened a film series entitled The Golden 60s of Czechoslovak Cinema which was prepared by the Embassies of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic in the United States.

Four films will be available for viewers within this project: after already screened The Sun in a Net, the American public can attend the following films: the Oscar winning The Shop on Main Street by directors Ján Kadár and Elmar Klos,1965 (screening February 28, 2013, the Czech Embassy), Celebration ion the Botanical Garden by director Elo Havetta, 1969 (screening March 21, 2013, the Slovak Embassy), and The Cremator by director Juraj Herz, 1969 (screening March 28, 2013, the Czech Embassy).

The screenings of Czechoslovak films at the Embassy of Slovak Republic will continue throughout 2013: in April, a film festival of Visegrad countries (V4) dedicated to censored films entitled Banned! By Communist Governments: Films They Did Not Want You to See will be running every Thursday.
