The Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) will present the national awards for the best films and creative achievements of Slovak cinematography for the fourteenth time. The national film awards The Sun in a Net for the year 2025 will be given in April 2026.
A total of 38 film and television works were submitted. Fifteen films were submitted in the Best Fiction Film category, 6 films in the Best Documentary Film category, 4 films in the Best Animation category, and 7 audiovisual works in the Best Television Film / Miniseries / Series category. Last year‘s new addition, the Best Short Fiction or Documentary Film category, has received 6 submission (5 of them from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava).
The greatest attention from the SFTA was garnered by Nepela, the debut feature of director Gregor Valentovič (nominated in 13 categories) and followed by the films Father and Flood, each receiving nine nominations. All three films are also nominated for the Best Fiction Film of 2025.
The nominees for the Best Documentary Film are Operation Monaco (d. Dušan Trančík), Chronicle (d. Martin Kollar), and Better Go Mad in the Wild (d. Miro Remo).
In the Best Animation category, the feature film Tales from the Magic Garden (d. Patrik Pašš Jr.) and the short films I Died in Irpin (d. Anastasia Falileieva) and The Forest Five – Gemstones (d. Andrej Gregorčok) are nominated.
In the category Best Short Fiction or Documentary Film, all nominated works are made by emerging female directors How to Listen to Fountains (d. Eva Sajanová), Hot Flush (d. Hana Hančinová), and Venus in Retrograde (d. Štefánia Lovasová).
