The documentary autumn festival season is ready to start! The 21st edition of Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (Oct 24 – 29, 2017) kicks off and opens with a Slovak documentary The Lust for Power by Tereza Nvotová.
The 33rd Warsaw Film Festival (Oct 13 – 22, 2017) features three Slovak films.
The re-release of Viktor Kubal’s Bloody Lady (1980), his second feature inspired by famous Slovak folktale, will take place at the 9th Lumière festival. The film will be screened within the section Archival treasures and curiosities, that offers unique restored archive films from over the world.
The jubilee 10th edition of film festival CinEast in Luxembourg (Oct 5 – 22, 2017) traditionally brings together a strong selection of Slovak films.
It is for the fifth time that Australia welcomes Czech and Slovak films during the one of a kind event Czech and Slovak Film festival in Australia (CaSFFA).
The 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 7 – 17, 2017) introduces two Slovak films within its rich programme. Sidebar Contemporary World Cinema features Nina by Juraj Lehotský and Short Cuts premieres a short student film Magic Moments by Martina Buchelová.
The European Film Academy announced this year’s selection of 51 films recommended for a nomination for the European Film Awards. The list includes three Slovak films: The Teacher (d. Jan Hřebejk) and two minority co-productions Ice Mother (d. Bohdan Sláma) and Spoor (d. Agnieszka Holland).
The Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište starts on July 27 and lasts until August 6, 2017. Beside the critically acclaimed world cinema and its filmmakers, who come to present their films to Uherské Hradiště personally, a wide range of Slovak cinema also participates at the event.
One of the oldest film festivals for children and youth Zlín Film Festival (May 26 – June 3, 2017) traditionally features several Slovak films.
