For the first time, Slovak film classics are released on DVD for the UK market. The Sun in a Net by Štefan Uher is the first title of the Slovak film series presented in the collection of Second Run.
Slovak films marked couple of successful results in the last days: not only they received awards at the prestigious 48th Karlovy Vary IFF, but they also scored at festivals in Munich, Germany, Lagow, Poland, Fest Anča in Žilina and FEST in Portugal.
The rich participation of Slovak films at the 48th Karlovy Vary IFF (28. 6. – 6. 7. 2013) resulted in a successful finale: three of the Slovak-participated films received awards.
The Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) nominated two Slovak films for the European Film Awards – the Tiger Award winning film from this year´s Rotterdam IFF My Dog Killer by Mira Fornay and the documentary Normalization by Robert Kirchhoff, which has gained considerable audiences after opening in Slovak cinemas on May 16,2013.
It’s been a successful week for the short student animation film Pandas by Matúš Vizár.
The International Festival of Animation Films in Annecy (10. – 15. 6. 2013) is one of the most significant events for animation. This year, the festival presents two Slovak titles – Pandas by Matúš Vizár and Mimi and LIsa – Twins from the Cards by Katarína Kerekesová.
June 5, 2013 the first edition of the Czech & Slovak Film Festival will be launched, placing its venues to Melbourne, the second largest Australian city. The festival will be held until June 9, 2013.
The 12th edition of Transilvania IFF (31. 5. – 9. 6. 2013) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania marks a significant presentation of Slovak films: in a section dedicated to Slovakia, it will screen seven Slovak both archive and new films, and the debut by Iveta Grófová Až do mesta Aš will moreover compete for the Transilvania Trophy, among others.
The Slovak-Czech animation short The Pandas by Matúš Vizár marks great success at the Croisette: awarded with 7.500 €, it received the 3rd prize ex-aequo in the Cinéfondation section at Cannes IFF.
